Purpose

The Role: Information Architect develops the Site Map to establish a structure (much of which is visible to the end user) for the website or application. The Site Map conveys information such as the site's organization and unique templates needed. It guides menu and navigation design. The Site Map complements the Artifact: Wireframes by providing the overall structure.
